Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Excellent 3 part drama, all now on iPlayer. Both Sean Bean and Stephen Graham are superb. Considering the main tv channels have cleared their schedules for the footy, this is a diamond in the shite.

Best thing in BBC for a while. Very gritty and realistic which made me and the missus grateful we were never locked up. She found it unnerving. Graham was excellent as always and Bean looked as rough as old boots but acted the" ordinary bloke in extraordinary circumstances" part brilliantly.

It looked like the kind of thing I’d enjoy, I just Can’t stand Sean Bean or Stephen Graham, think both are terrible actors, so I’ve held off.

Seeing your rave review(s) is making me reconsider giving it a go

Seen the first 2, excellent, Sean Bean is a much better actor than I gave him credit for.

err was there a likelihood you might have been? Are you like the Bonny & Clyde of our times?

You don't get to Bean's or Graham's stature unless you're a fucking good actor..

They were both superb performances but I felt it fizzled out as a drama.

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Sean Bean has been typecast as gruff Sean Bean a lot which kind of masks how good an actor he can be quite a lot.

Stephen Graham, on the other hand, has been brilliant in everything he has been in. He a super actor, up there with Toby Jones.

only ever seen Stephen Graham.in Little Boy Blue, which was very good

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
I can take or leave Sean Bean, although I felt he played this part quite well, but to suggest Stephen Graham is a 'terrible actor' is actually a bit odd imho.

There are a lot of terrible actors getting regular work, but I really don't think he's one of them.

I thought this show was good. Solid McGovern

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Stephen Graham must be a good actor because he has managed to convince numerous casting directors that he plays a convincing hard man despite being a 4ft 10 dwarf.

I just can't take him seriously when he would have to jump to nut someone's kneecaps.

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Of all Stephen Graham’s work, I can only think of two where he plays a ‘hard man’ - Combo and Capone.

He is a superb, versatile actor IMO

Excellent program. Watched all three in one go via i-player. As said before didn't think Sean Bean was all that but in this he played with some empathy. Watched lots of Stephen Graham and he always comes across really good. If it was your son being beaten up in nick, what would you do?

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Seen the first two parts and they were magnificent. Excellent writing and superbly acted all round in my book. I don't think there are many on here who wouldn't look after their own first and the consequences afterwards.

Really looking forward to tonight to watch the 3rd part!

It just a blokes version of Prisoner Cell Block H.

If that’s anything what prisons are really like, then Fuck that shit!

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
That Jimmy McGovern is a bastard. Nearly teared up in parts but managed to pull myself together. It’s the humanity he manages to bring to the fore in his work and how good people can get sucked into doing morally questionable acts. Not meant as a criticism but Bean played a very similar type in another McGovern drama, Broken, where he played a catholic priest. If you enjoyed Time and not seen Broken, do seek it out. It’s probably somewhere on iPlayer.

I agree - a very good actor. But you seem to be forgetting his most famous role, in This is England, where he played a fascist loon. Very convincingly.

Debs. Im pleading the 5th amendment on that one. We are also exempt from giving evidence against each other. Apart from that We ain't saying nothin til we see our brief.

Re: Jimmy McGovern’s Time
Anyone that thinks Stephen Graham is a poor actor clearly knows nothing about acting.
